Do you know what a Kimberlite pipe is? No, you don't smoke weed with it. It's a type of ancient lava tube that exploded up to the surface of the Earth eons ago. But kimberlite pipe lava tubes have diamonds in them. One similar feature is found near Murfreesboro, Arkansas. It's now called Crater of Diamonds State Park, and you can search for actual diamonds there, and keep any you find.
Have you ever gone to a state park? I'm sure you have at some point. When I was a kid in Ohio, my parents often took my sister and me to state parks, and we did typical start park stuff. We had picnics, swam in the lakes, went hiking, and did some fishing.
Have you ever gone to a state park where you can search for real diamonds, and keep any you find? Believe it or not, there actually is a state park where you can do that, just outside Murfreesboro, Arkansas. It's called Crater of Diamonds State Park, and they say about 35,000 diamonds have been found there since it became a state park in 1972. All told, since the first diamond was found in 1906, estimates are that 50,000 to 100,000 diamonds have been in that area.
The reality is, your chances of finding a diamond there are pretty small, but they say usually one or two diamonds are found at the park every day. Your chances are as good as anyone else's chances. Little kids have found diamonds just walking across the plowed dirt and looking for shiny stones. That's the easiest way to search for diamonds. You can also dry sift and wet sift through the dirt, to increase your chances. Below is the park's website link, and a few YouTube videos to check out if you're interested in making a trip there.
