Make money hunting for meteorites

Money from heaven?  Not quite, but rocks that literally fall out of the sky, from space, are worth quite a bit of money.  A few years ago the Meteorite Men TV show chronicled a couple of top meteorite hunters who do this professionally, as you can see in this video above.

Are you someone with an interest in space, or maybe a rock hound?  Or both?  Do you like searching for treasure?  Meteorite hunting brings these interests together.  This is not a quick and easy way to make money, by any means.  But if these fields interest you, and you have a SUV that actually can go off road, meteorite hunting might be fun for you, and possibly even profitable.  This 5 minute robot voice video gives you the basics.

When large meteors fall from space, into our atmosphere, they often break up into hundreds or thousands of small pieces.  People find, then buy and collect these pieces, both for science, and just as a collectibles.  So you can literally go out to some "strewn fields" on public lands (like BLM land in the U.S. west), and find meteorites that could be worth hundreds, possibly even thousands, of dollars.  You can also search for meteorites on privately owned land, if you get the landowners permission, and make a deal to share profits with them.

It takes some training to learn to spot meteorites, and tell them apart from other rocks. It also takes a lot of patience, and a good magnet, perhaps a metal detector.  But this is a hobby, and possible side gig, for the right people.  If this idea appeals to you, do some more research, and see if there's a "strewn field," a known meteorite landing zone, somewhere near you that you can go check out.  Get any needed permissions, and go hunt for space rocks.
